Shopping Agreement

Similar to an option, but without a paycheck (shopping agreements usually involve a symbolic $1 paid to the screenwriter), this type of legal agreement takes the IP off the market for an agreed-upon time (usually six to 12 months) while a producer ‘shops’ it around to seek funding. Like an option, the agreement typically prohibits the screenwriter from querying their script or entering it in competitions. See Option.
